Donor Wall unveiled at the new Veterans Memorial Building

by Karen Stepper:

On Friday, October 19th, Veterans Memorial Building Development Committee hosted the Donor Wall Unveiling.  The committee had meticulously reviewed and sorted the names and the stories that had motivated our donors to be part of this 100-year old building.  Some donors had fought for America’s freedom. Others seized the opportunity to memorialize their family’s commitment to the community. And commercial donors confirmed their support for the multi-faceted goals of this facility.

Families have also honored living relatives. It is an emotional moment to tell your brother or daughter that you have inscribed their names on the wall at the opening of a building that is dedicated to honor, service, and community. New donor names will be added periodically.  And we can literally wrap it up with a bow for the holidays—a silver ornament of the Veterans Building in a box with your dedication to your loved one.

If you give $500, you will also receive a Challenge Coin that depicts the new building. With a painting of Mt. Diablo on the reverse side of the coin, it is a memento of a building that serves all of Danville, San Ramon, Alamo, Diablo, Blackhawk, and beyond.

NEW DOCENT PROGRAM:  If you come between 9 and 3, a docent will show you the donor wall as well as the historical displays of each conflict that was fought by the USA.  The museum quality exhibits are built from the actual mementos and memories of San Ramon Valley’s men and women who served in earlier wars.  Many soldiers hit the beaches of Normandy; women learned to fly and deliver new planes to our allies; Marines languished in POW camps; others were emotionally ravaged by tragedies of war; and still others served in support roles that make United States leadership roles possible around the world.
