Steffens to be Honored Sunday Sept 18

Danville Olympian honored for 2016 Gold Medal

The community is invited to come to downtown Danville this weekend to celebrate and honor Danville resident Maggie Steffens. Steffens, a member of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Water Polo Team, won a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio. She and her sister Jessica won gold medals at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. At the 2016 games, which marked the second consecutive gold medal win for the U.S.A. Women’s Water Polo Team, Maggie Steffens was named MVP of the Olympic Games and is the team’s captain.

A special recognition ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. on the stage at the Danville d’Elegance event in Downtown Danville. The stage will be located on Hartz Avenue between School and Church Streets.

At the recognition event, Danville Mayor Karen Stepper will present Steffens with a special proclamation from the Danville Town Council. Members of the public will have an opportunity to hear from the gold medalist and take photos at the event.
