Breakfast benefitting Meals on Wheels

Event  to Benefit Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services Pleasant Hill Senior Center, 8:30 am -10:30 am Sunday, Sept. 7th, 2014

Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services is hosting a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, September 7^th to raise money for fall prevention services in Contra Costa County.  The Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Pleasant Hill Senior Center and is open to everyone.  The event includes a resource fair, breakfast, and boutique.  Free fall-risk assessments will be available.

Pleasant Hill Mayor, Tim Flaherty, will be the Master of Ceremonies and encourages all residents to attend.

The mission of the Fall Prevention Program is to reduce preventable injuries, loss of independence, costs and deaths associated with falls among older adults.  Recent data compiled by American Medical Response shows a  53% reduction of 9-1-1 calls by seniors who have had home modifications by the Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach Services’ Fall Prevention Program.  The program serves nearly 800 seniors a year, and since the program’s inception, has made nearly 500 home modifications such as grab bars, stair railings, and ramps.

“The Pancake Breakfast is the biggest fundraiser for our Fall Prevention Program,” says Alayne Balke, Program Manager. “We hope to have a large crowd again this year. There will be a boutique, resource fair, and plenty of pancakes! It’s also Grandparents Day so bring your grandchildren and celebrate with us.”

Pancake breakfast tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for children ages 4-10; and children under 4 are free.
