Danville’s Lighting of the Old Oak Tree
November 23, 2018 @ 5:15 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeDowntown streets to close for annual holiday tradition
Downtown streets will be closed November 23, 2018 as the Town of Danville celebrates the annual Lighting of the Old Oak Tree. This annual event, scheduled from 5:15 – 8:30 p.m., brings thousands of people into Town from all throughout northern California. Street closures will run from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (see attached map). Motorists are asked to use caution and expect delays.
Danville’s Lighting of the Old Oak Tree is in its 40th year and is a perfect way to spend the day after Thanksgiving. Leading up to the lighting, the San Ramon Valley High School Chorus and other groups will be performing near the reviewing stand on Diablo Rd. At approximately 6:15 p.m., local officials will address the crowd, followed by the introduction of Father Christmas and the Snow Angel. The pair will lead the crowd in a countdown as they sprinkle magic dust and the oak tree will spring to light.
All throughout the event, local merchants will be open, with many serving treats to those in attendance. All are welcome to join this special tradition and to stay downtown to enjoy the evening and visit our local shops.
