VALLEY ART GALLERY presents “John Brown – Digital Alternatives”
July 28 – September 10, 2015
FREE Reception, Saturday August 1, 3-5 PM
Prior to digital photography, it was necessary for photographers to decide between color or black & white images. John Brown usually carried two cameras, so he could shoot in both.
Today, presenting the image in color or black & white is a decision that can be made much later in the creative process. In “Digital Alternatives”, John pushes this to its furthest point: the gallery setting. By presenting images in both color and black & white, John is letting each viewer make that decision and asks them to cast their vote. Those who share their decision will be entered into a drawing to receive one of John Brown’s artist proof prints.
Also on exhibit are images John took in New Orleans in the late 1960’s. The original film negatives were scanned into a digital format, allowing additional processing before printing these images.
n addition, the Valley Art Gallery displays over 300 original works by Bay Area artists on our unique sliding walls, for sale or for rent. In addition there are beautifully crafted, ceramic, wood and glass pieces, and original designer jewelry.
Reception: Meet the Artist on August 1, 3:00 – 5:00 PM .
