Raising backyard chickens
November 16, 2013 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
FreeWant the freshest eggs in town? Considering a coop? Learn all you need to know to find out if backyard chickens are for you, from how much space you need & how to research city and county rules and ordinances to what breeds would work best for your needs & where to purchase them.
On Saturday, November 16th, Contra Costa Master Gardener Kim Garner will present a free lecture on Raising Backyard Chickens. The lecture will be held from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Walnut Creek Library, located at 1644 N. Broadway in Walnut Creek. Join us in the 2nd floor Oak View Room to learn how to raise chickens and reap the benefits of fresh organic eggs and additives for your compost. Kim will take questions from the audience at the end of the program.
Master Gardeners are trained volunteers for the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE). They are residents of a local community who have an active interest in horticulture, have taken the Master Gardener training offered by the UCCE, and now share their knowledge with other members of that community. It is the acquisition of knowledge, the skill in gardening, and giving back to the community that distinguishes a Master Gardener from other gardeners.
