Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) offers segment ideas throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month
CTCA in Goodyear is the only Arizona hospital with the National Accreditation Program for Breast Cancers. We also have the most advanced options for patients like the Zeiss INTRABEAM Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT). IORT provides a more controlled, precise treatment applied directly to the tumor site during surgery that ultimately decreases the amount of healthy tissue that is affected during radiation therapy. We can provide video and pictures as well as a real patient story. Our expert on this treatment is Dr. Lanceford Chong, MD, MPH who will be available for live or taped interviews. Here is a video link for your use. The full script is also available on the Youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpnTVPQ8HmY
*Racial Disparities: The Need for Better Intervention among African American Women:
The two-decade-long divide in breast cancer survival rates among African American and Caucasian women has not budged, and the difference is driven more by how sick women are when they come in for a diagnosis rather than the differences in how they’re treated, says a study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), African American women are 40 percent more likely to die of breast cancer than Caucasian women. Dr. Madappa Kundranda, MD, PhD Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) sees this as a call to action and can discuss ways to educate and encourage African American women about appropriate breast health and cancer risk, screenings and preventative care.
*The Role Integrated Treatments Play in Maintaining Well-Being:
Fighting breast cancer involves more than chemotherapy and radiation. Today, integrated treatments focused on the mind, body and spirit are viewed as critical to the treatment and survival of breast cancer patients.
From the food that patients eat to the exercises they perform, everything contributes to a patient’s overall well-being. Dr. Shauna Birdsall, ND, FABNO can share the top cancer fighting foods, exercises, and spiritual practices to help your audience in the battle against breast cancer.
*When to Undergo Genetic Testing:
After learning about film star Angelina Jolie’s preventative double mastectomy, a growing number of U.S. women now say they may ask their doctors whether the same preventive measure is right for them, according to a Harris Interactive/HealthDay poll. While many women may be interested in genetic testing (especially the BRAC1 & BRAC2 series), according to Dr. Ashish Sangal, MD it is not appropriate for everyone. Dr. Sangal can provide the facts and dispel the myths behind genetic testing.
*Available for phone or Skype interviews if outside Arizona. We can also send a video clip of answers to your questions.
