With storm incoming, residents asked to keep street gutters clear
The National Weather Service is forecasting a strong storm system hitting the area early Thursday morning, bringing with it heavy rains and strong winds. In preparation for the storm, Danville Maintainence Services Director Jed Johnson is recommending that residents be sure their gutters are clear of leaves and debris to help prevent storm drains from getting clogged and causing flooding.
The storm is predicted to drop as much as 2-3 inches of rain on the Danville area over the course of several hours. Homeowners are asked to make sure any drainage facilities on their properties are clear of debris.
“Keeping these areas clear and preventing items from clogging storm drains will go a long way to keeping an area from flooding,” Johnson said. He added, “Having homeowners work with us in keeping those areas clear reduces the odds of flooding occurring.”
In the event flooding does occur, the Town of Danville does provide free sand for sandbags at their facility at 1000 Sherburne Hills Road.
Because of the expected high winds, there is the possibility of power lines being brought down. Johnson advises that in the event a line comes down, residents should stay clear of the line and contact PG&E immediately at (800) 743-5000. Residents should be prepared for the possibility of power outages by having flashlights and batteries on hand.
