Contra Costa County health officials are investigating a case of tuberculosis (TB) involving a high school student in Antioch. The student was confirmed to have TB on March 25, and is no longer infectious. The Contra Costa Health Department’s Tuberculosis Control Program is working to ensure all appropriate measures are taken to protect students and inform parents. Students who shared classrooms or were otherwise in close contact with the infected student will be tested for TB as a safety precaution.
TB usually infects the lungs, and is spread from person to person through coughing. Symptoms of active TB include prolonged cough, fever, night sweats and unexpected weight loss of at least 10 lbs. Visit Contra Costa Health Services online for more information.
